Coffee Meets Bagel Review (2023)-How Does It Work?
Tired of Tinder and Bumble?
Looking for high quality dating apps?
You can try out Coffee Meets Bagel.
Coffee Meets Bagel or CMB is an online dating app or website that is focused on matching like-minded people without endless amounts of swiping.
In this Coffee Meets Bagel review, we are going to talk about everything you need to know about this popular dating app so you can decide if it’s the right choice for you.
What is Coffee Meets Bagel?
Coffee Meets Bagel was started over eight years ago by three siblings, who were tired of meaningless swiping on other dating sites. Eventually, they had a brilliant idea for the app where quality, instead of quantity, would matter. The whole concept of the app is to offer fewer but more accurate matches, based on the people you have as friends on Facebook.
Totally, around 25 million users worldwide have successfully joined Coffee Meets Bagel, and almost half of them (around 11 million) are based in the United States. According to CMB, around 400,000 people sign up each month.
CMB is open to people who are looking for a straight, gay, or bisexual relationship, and all you need to do is mention your preferences in the account.
Singing Up Bagel Meet Coffee
You can sign up Bagel Meet Coffee with your Facebook account or phone number. Then, you need to provide some necessary information such as your first and last name, email address, date of birth, location and preferred gender.
To get more compatible matches, it’s a good idea to add information about your ethnicity, religion, school, job, etc.
In addition, finishing the sentences “I am…”, “I like…”, “I appreciate when my date…” will facilitate your potential matches to know more about you and to be interested in you.
It is also necessary to add photos to your account, or you can import them from your Facebook profile. You can upload up to nine photos.
Please note that if you don’t use CMB for 14 days, you’ll automatically be inactive users and then your profile will not be shown on suggested matches. The good thing is that once log in again, you’ll be an active user again.
How Does Bagel Meet Coffee Work?
Coffee Meets Bagel has two main sections where you can browse profiles: Suggested & Discover.
1. Suggested Bagels
Every day around noon, CMB will pick a limited number of your very best potential matches which they call them “bagels”. Once you and your bagel have liked each other, you can start a chat by using the personalized icebreakers.
If you’re not feeling a bagel and you pass on them, you’ll be shown our next pick if we have one. The number of suggested bagels you’ll see per day will vary depending on your set preferences, location, gender, and more.
2. Discover Bagels
If you want to see additional bagels nearby, check out Discover. Here, you can use Advanced Filters, like location, activity, and education, to browse more bagels beyond the ones the app curates for you daily.
What’s Special about Coffee Meets Bagel?
Coffee Meets Bagel has many distinct features such as #LadiesChoice, Mirror Mirror, Photo Lab Report, and more.
Let’s check them one by one.
Every day at noon, men will receive 21 quality matches – known as “Bagels”. The men have 24 hours to either like or pass on the Bagels. Among the men who expressed interest, CMB curates the best potential matches for women. Women will then receive 6 matches who have already liked them. If there are fewer than six #LadiesChoice matches, the dating app will provide regular matches which women can either like or pass on. Women have full control over who gets to talk to them.
2. Mirror Mirror
Mirror Mirror discloses your ranking across the whole CMB app. The data is based off your 10 most recent matches. It is a visual representation of where you score among male and female average ratings. Additionally, a chart shows how your profile is trending weekly.
3. Photo Lab Report
Photo Lab allows you to “put your best face forward”. Basically, this feature lets you run an A/B test on two photos from your profile, and members vote on which one they prefer. The results of the voting can be unlocked using Beans. The opposite is also available, wherein you can vote between two photos of other members. You can earn free beans through this fun feature.
4. Open Sesame
Open Sesame lets you unlock the identities of mutual Facebook friends between you and your current match.
If you missed a match, you are given another chance through Rematch. You can hit “like” again or send a message to the potential match.
Sending someone a Woo lets them know that you have an elevated interest, similar to the familiar “Super Like”. Woo lets you stand out from the crowd and get noticed by your match faster.
7. Express Delivery
This feature allows you to send your message to a match in advance for a cost of 50 Beans. Your match will receive an email notification of the Express Delivery and be able to see your message after checking your profile.
Is Coffee Meet Bagel Free?
The core features of the Coffee Meets Bagel app are free! This means you can join and chat with suggested matches without paying. However, if you want to be more successful on the app, you can acquire a premium membership on Coffee Meets Bagel or buy beans.
Premium members can use many exclusive features which includes “Activity Reports”, “Read Receipts”, and “Likes you”.
This is how much the premium membership at CMB costs:
|Membership Type||Membership Length||Monthly Cost||Total Cost|
Inside the app, you can purchase beans, which are a currency that works on the app. Its costs are:
- 100 beans – $1,99
- 2000 beans – $23,99
You can earn beans by signing in, exploring, and more. Then, you can trade them in to unlock special features such as liking extra bagels. If you need more beans, then you can buy them.
Coffee Meets Bagel Review: Pros and Cons
- Huge user base: over 400,000 new members per month.
- You are only matched with active members: people who have logged into CMB within the last 14 days.
- Users aren’t overwhelmed with matches and unwanted messages: You will only receive messages from profiles you’ve liked.
- Higher success rate: women outnumber men on the app 60/40.
- You must use Facebook or your phone number to sign up for CMB.
- You only get a limited number of matches per day.
- Matching with friends of friends could mean potentially awkward encounters with co-workers, exes, or other mutual connections.
- The matching algorithm isn’t great, based only on: age, height, distance, ethnicity, and religion.
Coffee Meets Bagel Review Final Verdict
So what’s our verdict?
To be honest, I really like Coffee Meets Bagel. This app is very simple to use, the registration is quick and easy, and user profiles are detailed. However, I’m not a big fan of the “Facebook connect” story, and the matching system is a bit weird for me.
