eHarmony is a dating site and app which was launched in 2000. It is owned by a German media company called ProSiebenSat.1 Media, which specializes in pay TV channels, free commercial TV channels and radio stations.

eHarmony is designed for people who are ready to start serious relationships. Till now, eHarmony has over 29 million members in the United States, and the majority of them are between 25 and 34 years old. Of course, there is a fairly good distribution for the other age groups as well.

As of 2022, eHarmony has over 66 million members in over 200 countries around the world. The number of subscribers reached 75,000. Needless to say more, the numbers speak for themselves.

How Does eHarmony Work?

eHarmony uses compatibility quiz to determine who your best matches will be. More than 60,000 couples got married after meeting on eHarmony, which shows the great success of this dating app.

Signing Up for eHarmony

While signing up to eHarmony, I noticed that the process takes longer compared to other dating apps. That’s all because I have to take on a 150-question compatibility quiz that asks everything from my personality to preferences.

In addition to the quiz, I also need to enter other information about myself, such as nationality, age, height, religion, etc. eHarmony claims that all of the information will help me find better matches.

After I created my profile, eHarmony show me some matches that based on my quiz answers immediately. I have to say I was quite surprised at the accuracy. A lot of people seem to be exactly like what I am looking for!

1. Detailed Profile

The profile on eHarmony contains many details about a user such as their name, type of relationship they are looking for, their photos, personal characteristics, etc.

2. Send a Smile

Under the list of suggested profiles, you can find a smiley icon next to each profile. If you click on this icon, a smiley will be sent to the profile owner. It is a way of expressing your interest in a member and a way of initiating communication.

3. Icebreakers & Greetings

Icebreakers is a unique design feature of eHarmony. It provides you with suggestive messages to start a conversation or reply to a new message.

4. Video Date

“Video Date” is a fancy name for video chat. It means that a user can interact with his matches in video mode using video date.

5. Add to favorites

Like most dating apps, you can easily add other user profiles to your favorites list for future access.

How Much Does eHarmony Cost?

After signing up, you’ll notice that not all eHarmony features are free. You can sign up, take the quiz, send an icebreaker and smiles, and customize your profile for free on eHarmony.

However, if you want to send messages or view photos of other members, you will need a subscription.

When I try to upgrade my plan, I’m shocked that the minimum subscription is 6 months. You can pay by credit card or PayPal and choose from three different payment options: Premium Light, Premium Plus, and Premium Extra. For Premium Light, you need to pay $65.90 per month. Compared to other online dating apps, eHarmony costs more.

Pros:

• Ideal for those who are serious about marriage or a long-term relationship

Cons:

• More expensive than other dating services
• Presents matches based on the profile you create – you can’t perform your own searches
• Free members can only see blurred photos and can only respond to a first message
