How Does Zoosk Work?
As soon as you’ve got your Zoosk profile set up, you can start browsing the global dating database for potential dates. Unlike the swipe-style dating apps, Zoosk follows a traditional online dating app approach. Users create profiles, upload photos, answer questions about themselves, and share what they’re looking for in a relationship. Then, Zoosk use this information to show you matches that it thinks will be a good fit for you.
Zoosk also uses a powerful behavioral matchmaking engine to recommend date prospects in the SmartPick and Carousel sections. Every time a Zoosk member likes a photo or view a profile, the algorithm learns a little more about his or her dating preferences and highlights profiles with similar qualities.
You can also use the advanced search function which allows you to search for profiles according to age, gender, height, region, photo, etc.
If you see someone you like, you can send them a message!
Zoosk Key Features
1. SmartPicks
SmartPicks is the most interesting feature of Zoosk. It is an algorithm that will recommend you profiles according to your interests, passions but also based on your activity on the app. The profiles you visit as well as the singles you send messages to will be all elements that allow Zoosk to try to define what your “type” is and thus show you profiles that correspond to your tastes.
2. Carousel
Carousel is a classic but proven feature. It consists of successively proposing profiles of other members, more or less randomly, according to the basic criteria established in “Search”, namely the age, the location, and the photo.
3. Great Dates
This feature aims to innovate the video dating trend by letting members access fun virtual date experiences in exciting global destinations. Great Dates allow members to virtually experience majestic locations and do fun activities with their matches.
4. Zoosk Live
Zoosk Live is a way for you to “go live” by sharing a live feed of yourself from your phone or computer where other people can watch, chat, and send messages. It is used by over 10,000 users daily! This feature won’t be for everyone, but if you love a lot of things like TikTok, Facebook Live, or any other major streaming platform—you’ll probably enjoy this.
How Much Does Zoosk Cost?
Joining Zoosk is completely free, and you can use many features for free:
- Send smiles and hearts
- Access Carousel
- View full profiles
However, you cannot send or read messages for free. That’s why most Zoosk users need a subscription. The subscription allows you to send and receive messages, view and contact people who have visited your profile, browse users’ profiles in incognito mode, and use the SmartPicks function.

Zoosk Complaints on the Internet
The opinions of Zoosk users are quite divided:
Terrible app! It’s often difficult to just read a profile so you accidentally “like” someone just by tapping or trying to swipe. I paid for a one-month subscription and 4 days later I was blocked from reading or responding to messages unless I paid for a subscription again! $30 for 4 days … no!! And I hate the people going live always at the top of the screen. This is the worst of the dating apps I’ve tried. I agree with other negative reviews I’ve read. I wish I’d read them before paying.

Best app ever
Hi everyone, I met my husband here in Zoosk 8 years ago in 2011, we got married in 2017. I was happy to have found Zoosk site, I signed up for only one month as I were very skeptical of finding true love. When I met my husband he too was about to expired but a good angel brought us together, on our last week before expiration, I began looking through some profiles when I came across my husband profile pictures and I think he was such a handsome guy so I send him a message that says “nice profile good luck “and he wrote back “thank you, nice profile too” and from there we were texting back and forth and he was so funny he would make me laugh so bad. Until a week before Christmas Eve we decided to meet up. We decided to meet up at a TGI Friday which was close to me but on that day he went to the wrong TGI Friday I waited then I called, he said he was at TGI I say no I’m, it turns out he was at another, I told him probably this wasn’t meant to be but he said “no stay right there I’ll be there in 10 mins and he was. We spend 30 mins getting to know each other. Our first date was on Christmas Eve and we had such a good time. Thank you Zoosk!!

Zoosk Reviews Final Verdict
Our opinion on Zoosk is generally positive, even if Zoosk still need to improve in many aspects.
We particularly appreciate the possibility of being able to register Zoosk quickly via the Facebook account. The Messenger-style chat is also a good idea and makes it easy to chat with the members we like. In additional, we appreciate the fact that inactive profiles are deleted after 6 months. Indeed, many users simply clicked to register, test, and abandoned the platform.
If we had to recommend it to anyone, it would be to all those of you who struggle to find a serious relationship or hookup.
