Way 1: Check if the Person Has Left the Group

In GroupMe, when you try to add someone to a group, you might get the error “Failed to add member to ‘Group name’”, the member might show as not allowed or nothing will happen. This might mean that they were a member of the group before, but they decided to leave. 

GroupMe does not let you add users that have left a particular group, back to that same group. After a member leaves a group, you can share a link to the group so they can choose to rejoin it, but you might not be able to add them back to the group. 

Way 2: Refresh the App

If the member you want to add is not the one who has left the group before, try to refresh the app to add he/she again. To refresh the app, simply go back to the main page of the app and swipe downward. Then, you should see the page reload.

Way 3: Try Using the Website

Some users found that when they failed to add member in GroupMe app, they add members to groups via the GroupMe website successfully.

To add a member using the website, first log in to the Website with your GroupMe credentials. Now select the group that you would like to add the person to. Click on the group name at the top of the group, then click on ‘Members’.

Way 4: Delete the App and Reinstall

A complete re-install which will also involve setting up the app again after re-install, may easily fix the error. 

Way 5: Restart the Device

Like many other problems on computer or apps, sometimes a simple restart (soft reset) is all you need to fix a bug nagging you.

Press and hold the power button to get the Restart option. Tap on Restart to reboot your phone. Let it restart. Open the GroupMe app again and try to add a member now.
